Labor Day Block Party
A potluck barbecue for all Newtown members and their guests, this party is a great way to welcome newcomers to the Neighborhood and make new friends. This event happens every year on Labor Day.
To celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States this year, we want to make our annual Labor Day gathering a little more special. Normally, we ask everyone to bring any side dish they choose, but this year we have some fun, on-theme suggestions:
- Family Heritage: Use a recipe that has been passed down in your family from any generation or country—just a dish with history!
- Historical Dish: Recreate a dish from a specific point in American history using accurate ingredients. It would be wonderful if you also brought a small card explaining the time period.
- Americana: Bring a dish featuring patriotic colors (red, white, and blue).
This is optional and not a contest, just a fun take on our usual event. We look forward to seeing you, whatever dish you bring!
Sundae Social in July
Every July NNA hosts an ice cream sundae bar in the backyard in one of Newtown's iconic homes. With flavors and toppings galore, it's a delicious treat to celebrate the beautiful summer season.

Buy a Bowl, Feed a Soul
Our new fundraiser to support the Blue Ridge Food Bank

Every February NNA hosts a Soup Social where a team of volunteers make a variety of soups and residents bring sides, salads, and desserts. We share this wonderful feast as we get to mingle and chat with our neighbors.
Before dinner there is a brief program selected by the board spreading awareness of a local non-profit or a topic of particular interest to the neighborhood.
This year (2026) we have asked a bunch of local potters to donate handmade soup bowls to be available for purchase at the Soup Social. All proceeds will go to the Blue Ridge Food Bank!
