Committee Reports
Community Issues, Sara Hollberg:
Carter Green of Historic Staunton has asked NNA to speak at a Brown Bag event to support Sears Hill. We discussed doing a program with other groups--SDDA, NBG on how to get connected or just meet directly with Sears Hill folks.
The city is redoing their comprehensive plan. It is reviewed every 5 years by the state, examining schools, population change, citizen's committees, making goals and objectives.
Officer Lisa Kline of Staunton Police is not happy with people outside of Stafford area not attending the Block Party in Stafford area. It was moved and passed after discussion that NNA will invite Lisa to our October meeting to speak with us. We would like to maintain a relationship with Stafford St. area and it was suggested that someone from NNA be a liason. It was also recognized that Stafford St. area is not a part of Newtown.
Newtown Property, Craig Peterson:
The Arts and Craft Bungalow on Beverley is being renovated and will be a single family unit. John Dorlini will have a big announcement to make at next NBG meeting--possibly about the Dunsmore?
Old Business:
800 W. Beverley- Demolition is progressing at 800 Beverley with the Jazzy T project. The first floor has been gutted and the sidewalks have been marked to be replaced. Volunteers are sought to help with the project.
Ice Cream Social, July 26, 2-5 pm at Dyjak's home was very successful and delightful.
Plant Swap feedback: There have been three swaps. The first two were well attended, but at the last one the attendance was slimmer. More flyers are to be distributed for next swap, Saturday, September 6, 1-2 pm.
Block Party: The date has been set for September 6. We need volunteers to help set up canopies and tables. Sandra will not be able to attend. Ed Pickett agreed to sit at the table and collect membership dues, in her place. We will announce a social hour from 5-6 pm with dinner to start at 6 pm, to allow folks time to arrive with food. Sally will check with Darjeeling to make sure no loud music is being planned for that evening.
Corridor overlay meeting on August 13: It was reported there are many people interested in the greenway idea of biking and walking paths.
New Business:
Officers will be elected at our next meeting on October 8.
Flyer for Block Party: Bob Craycroft will make the flyer. Shirley will get approval from SPD for street closure. McCracken Hall at Trinity is available in case of rain.
Christmas Tree Walk--Ed Miska requested help with this this year.
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, October 8, 6:30 pm, location TBA |
