NBG has open lots for anyone who would like to put in a garden
NBG will host a Plant Swap on the first Saturday of June, July, August, September and October at 1 p.m. at parking lot at corner of Beverley and Jefferson. The first swap will be June 7. Bring any garden plants, tools, pots, that you want to give away and wheelbarrow or table to place them on.
Old Business:
Neighborhood Watch Meeting: Shirley attended the meeting and the gist seemed to be more support, especially of the Stafford St. area, rather than informational or about issuing warnings of crimes occurring in the area. Lisa Kline said there were no specific issues or hotspots in Newtown at this time.
City Council Elections:
Shirley will send letters of congratulations to the winners and "thanks for running" to those who lost and include our hope of the winner's support for corridor overlay and other issues concerning Newtown.
New Business:
Shirley brought up emailing our newsletter to those outside of Newtown instead of mailing because postage costs are currently $20 to do the mailing and will be going up. Ed Pickett expressed thanks to all of those who helped distribute the newsletter.
The Ice Cream Social will be Saturday, July 26, 2-5 p.m. at Elisabeth and Michael Dyjak's home.
A new newsletter will come out in early June and will include a description of the neighborhood watch, ice cream social flyer and information about Norton Upholstery, Fabric Creations, 234 Gallery and new menu items for Dirty Bean. Also the upcoming Plant Swap and availability of Newtown tote bags.
There was a discussion on what information should be sent to NNA members. Some people have expressed the desire of having more information about NBG. Craig Peterson was willing to have people contact him and he will send them whatever is sent out from NBG.
It was also suggested that the membership form have a box to check for those not wishing to get emails from NNA.
Will Wright asked Barbara Martin to get feedback from NNA board about a locally grown market with an international flavor that he is considering putting in next to the Dirty Bean. The board was supportive of this idea.
Many thanks to the Tea Bazaar who hosted our meeting and presented us with delicious appetizers.
Our next meeting will be Thursday, June 12, 6:30 p.m. at the home of Bob Craycroft, 123 Fayette St.
