Meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m.

August minutes were approved

Treasurer's Report:
Sandra McNeill:  $2,280.86 with $85 from new members at block party

Committee Reports:

Community Issues:
Sara Hollberg:  Nothing to report.  The board agreed for Sara to email events and festivals that are occurring downtown to NNA membership

Commercial Property/NBG Liaison:
Craig Peterson:  NBG has joined SDDA.  The Guild has invited NNA Board to a Halloween party on October 31.  Julie Markowitz, of SDDA, will speak at the party.

Old Business:

Volunteers are needed as guides for Newtown Tour for the APVA Preservation Virginia Conference.  Katherine Brown will lead the tour on Tuesday, September 25, 12:30-1:30.  The idea of having refreshments at the end of the tour, sponsored by NNA, was discussed.  It is still unclear whether volunteers will have to pay to participate in conference.  Shirley will try to find out more about this.

Community Improvement project to have NNA trash cans:  Steve Plumbley spoke with Dave Metz.  Four trash cans that were being replaced in the parking garage were donated by the city and placed at several locations in Newtown.  Within two days of being placed, two of the cans were stolen.  The board discussed investigating ways to bolt the cans to the sidewalk.  Shirley will send a thank you letter to the city.

Studio Tour in October:  Steve Plumbley spoke with Nancy Spaar.  Nancy said the best time for the artists would be Saturday AM.  A tentative date of October 27 has been set.  Huss and Dalton is not available to be part of the tour on Saturday.  The board discussed whether to make the first tour visual arts only or to combine performing arts and visual arts together.  Performing arts would need definite times to do mini-concerts.

The next newsletter will come out late September or early October and include block party report, announcement of studio walk and request to participate in Christmas walk.  Please email Barbara Martin with any items you wish to have included.

Shirley Masters volunteered to be the NNA Crime Watch Coordinator, until someone else steps up to the plate.

Block Party:  Thanks to everyone who attended and helped out.  Special thanks to Sandra McNeill who sat at the table collecting dues for the whole time of the party.  The board discussed changing the date next year, having the name tag and membership dues collection at same table, announcing a definite time for eating--6 p.m., having a plant exchange and having the police bring one of their dogs to talk about the K9 program.

New Business:

Ed Miska has contacted Sally Mueller to be on NNA Board and she has agreed.

Welcome Wagon has beautiful cookies--different ones for each season--by Sandra McNeill to distribute in the welcome packages to new neighbors.

The board voted to have no meeting in October.  The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 13, 6:30 p.m. at the home of Bob Craycroft, 123 Fayette St.
