Committee Reports
Commercial Properties:
Craig Peterson reported that the News-Leader column written in support of Paul Anderson provoked him to write a rebuttal Letter to the Editor in which he pointed out numerous inaccuracies contained in the article. Craig reported that Anderson was given yet another sixty day extension.

Craig and other members of the Newtown Business Guild met with Mayor Lacy King. They told him that the code compliance enforcement process wasn’t working. The Mayor asked the group to document the situation and send the results to him in an e-mail.

Craig also announced another community cleanup/picnic in the Booker T. Washington Community Center area. Hot dogs and baked beans will be provided. Greg Jackson (887-2022) is the NBG contact for the event.

Community Relations:
Central United Methodist Church will hold a special Newtown worship service on September 24th.

Suspicious activities have been observed in the area of S. Washington and Johnson Streets. Call the police if you spot suspicious activities. Call the Police Department’s regular number (332-3842)-- not 911.

Real Estate:
Jim Lamb’s small house on Fayette Street sold. The Gorra’s house on Church Street sold in five days.

Old Business
Block Party:
Ed extended a special note of recognition to Rudy and Shirley Masters for, once again, doing so much to achieve another very successful Fall Block Party. Kudos from the entire Board with the note that the event has once again surpassed all previous ones in attendance (130 +), fellowship, and cuisine.

Next Meeting
Shirley Masters will host the next meeting at her house, 18 Church Street, on October 11th (since changed to October 17th).

Swan Song
In his final act as president, after having served two one-year terms, Ed Miska presented the Vice President, the Treasurer, and the Acting Secretary with handsome crystal candy dishes made in Ireland in the shape of a pumpkin. Ed was thanked for the gifts and for the excellent service that he rendered the NNA.

The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Bob Craycroft
