(The new secretary failed to note the motioners and seconds throughout the meeting. He promised to do better.)

The minutes from the March meeting were lost. Sara had some notes and with the help of the group the minutes were reconstituted. The minutes were approved as discussed. Sara will type them up for Bob to post on the web site.

The April minutes were also approved as presented.

Treasurer’s Report:
Sara reported that there had been no change since last month. The balance as of 3/31/06 was $2266 +/-.

Committee Reports:

Real Estate:
No new sales or new properties for sale were reported.

Newtown Business Guild:
Michael Organ has taped a program about Newtown with WKDW AM and WSV FM for Broadcast on June 25th At 7:00 a.m.

Michael Organ asked our input on a proposal to form a group tentatively named the “Neighborhood Integrity Committee” that would identify code violations that need to be remedied. The Board agreed that the city officials had a difficult time locating such problems but was concerned that an official group dedicated to that cause might garner considerable ill will. No one on the Board volunteered to join such a group.

Elisabeth Dyjak mentioned that with properties on the western edge of Newtown changing hands at a fairly fast rate, the current B4 zoning classification would allow apartment buildings that could have a detrimental effect on existing single family homes. There was a discussion of the possibility that those areas could be included in the Newtown Historic District.

Ed Miska reported that the Council Candidates Forum was a great success. It did not attract as large a crowd as some previous forums but it was noted that ours was the last of a series of such events. Sara Hollberg has sent a note of thanks and a $30.00 honorarium to the church.

Sara, Shirley, Elizabeth, Ed, and Madison made a presentation to the HSF’s Brown Bag Luncheon at the Library. They were well received and answered a lot of questions.

Elisabeth, acting as chair of the Garden Walk Committee set the date for June 3rd from 2 PM to 5 PM. Sunday, the 4th will be the rain day. Barbara Martin will be sending out the newsletter announcing the event and requesting volunteers to show their gardens. Refreshments are optional.

Shirley is looking for tea towels to carry the NNA logo as a gift for the Welcome Wagon packages. She is also looking for good tote bags to carry the logo. The bags would be for sale. There was a general discussion of the Welcome Wagon and some of its possibilities for the future.

Barbara Martin will be getting the Newsletter/Event Flyer within the week.

Elisabeth will be planning for the Ice Cream Social to be held in July (possibly on Bastille Day (or close to it) Saturday the 14th is a possibility.

SDDA would like to visit with the Board and make a presentation -- possibly at the next meeting.

The next meeting will be at Barbara Buckingham’s and Michael Bowermaster’s house / yard / hot tub (224 Fayette Street) on June 29th at 6:30 p.m.

The Board disussed various ways that we might be able to help Joe and Kristina through this difficult period. The consensous was that a food basket might be helpful. Anyone wishing to contribute should get their items to Tess by next Thursday.

Ed adjourned the meeting at 8:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Craycroft
NNA Secretary
