MinutesThe meeting was opened at 6:35PM by president Ed Miska.

The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed, amended and adopted.

Treasurers Report:
Sara reported that our bank statement still shows $1503 in the bank. $30 in dues is on hand, making our balance $1533

Committee Reports:

Community Relations:
It was reported that the preservation brochures created by the City had been mailed to all property owners in the historic districts. The brochures outline the steps needed to alter the outside appearance of a building in the districts, as well as how to determine what design approval is neccesary. These brochures will be mailed annually, and also sent to new property owners.

It was reported that the joint NNA, NBG and CIA dinner for the French choir went well. There was discussion of more joint projects in the future.

Real Estate:
There was discussion concerning various properties bought and sold in the Newtown area.

Newtown Business Guild:
Craig reported that there would be an auction at Innkeeper's Extra on August 27th, and NBG would be using it as a fundraiser.

There was much discussion about ongoing problems on the West Beverley Street corridor. Although the Police bicycle patrol is supposed to be in operation, much of their attention is on Anderson and Heidenreich Streets. It was decided that Craig would arrange a joint meeting with Police Chief William and John Glover of the Planning Department to discuss problems. Citizen participants would include representatives from the new West Newtown Crime Watch, NBG, CIA and NNA. Ed Miska will be the NNA representative.

Old Business:

The consensus of the board was that the educational program on how to survive the Certificate of Appropriateness process had gone well. More such programs will be considered in the future.

There was additional discussion of the joint event that fed members of the visiting French choir.

New Business:

It was decided by consensus that the annual block party would be held on September 10th from 5-8PM on Church Street. NNA will provide the entree (of course meaning Shirley; THANKS, SHIRLEY!!) while members will be asked to bring an appetizer, dessert or side dish. The church hall will be available in case of rain.

There was discussion concerning inviting local businesses to promote their businesses at the event. Kristina will contact SDDA to see if they are willing to contact member businesses.

The Board heard that all current active members of the Board had agreed to serve another term, as well as several new members. The complete list will be posted on the website.

The President commended Sara for the Educational program, as well as Tesi for organizing the dinner for the French choir..

It was decided that the next meeting will be held on Thursday, September 15th at 6:30PM. It will be held at Craig Peterson's house at 703 West Beverley Street.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30PM.

Just to make sure that Rudy didn't have Buffalo wings for breakfast, the board managed to polish off the snacks by the end of the meeting. There were a few lonesome grapes, but that was about it....

Submitted for your approval by Joe Sandlin, Secretary. Please email me with obvious screwups. The rest will be addressed at the September 15th meeting.
