| The meeting was opened at 6:40PM by president Ed Miska.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and adopted.
Treasurers Report:
There was no Treasurer's Report. At the last meeting, Sara reported: $1,706.97 in the bank. We have 61 paid up members, with an additional 40 who are slightly behind on dues.
Committee Reports:
Real Estate: There was discussion about the various properties bought and sold in Newtown. These included Patrick Clark's house for $218,000, and the House next to the Bowermaster's for $75,000.
Newtown Business Guild: Craig reported that the NBG was trying to develop a theme for the Beverley Street corridor. Their agreed to concept is "Booktown", which would include bookstores, coffee houses and related businesses. There are only twenty "Booktowns" in the world, with none on the East coast of the US. Other activities include:
Development of the NBG Web site.
A request to SPD to lower the speedlimit on West Beverley from Jefferson Street to Thornrose Cemetary to 15 MPH.
A request for continuation of the Bike Patrol in the area this summer.
Community Relations: Ed informed the Board of the next "Brown Bag Lunch" series by the Historic Staunton Foundation. The topic of the April 1st presentation is the history of Staunton's revitalization, presented by Kimberley Waters of SDDA.
Old Business:
A decision on the New NNA yard signs was again tabled. We are waiting on some sample layouts to consider.
New Business:
There was discussion about the Spring Cleanup. The city's annual Heavy trash pickup will be the week of April 11th.
Anne moved and Elizabeth seconded:
The NNA's Spring cleanup will be held on April 16th, with a rain date of April 17th.
The motion passed unanimously
Joe will arrange for the vests and bags from the Clean City Committee.
Joe moved:
NNA will underwrite the cost of disposing of tires for members during the cleanup.
There was no second.
Because of the Conflict with the Garden Week tour of Newtown, it was decided to postpone our annual Yard Sale untill Summer.
Anne and Ed volunteered to co-chair our NNA Garden Walk. Anne moved, Joe seconded:
NNA's Garden Walk will be held on June 11th. Rain Date is June 12th.
The motion passed unanamously.
The President commended Shirley Masters for her Welcome gifts and Easter treats on behalf of NNA, all who worked on the Block Grant application, as well as all who helped make the Winter Event a success.
It was decided that the next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 21st at 6:30PM. It will be held at Dave and Anne Jeffrey's house, 103 Madison Place
The meeting adjourned at 7:50PM.
Members remained in order to put a serious dent in Elizabeth's wine collection and eat all of her cheese!
